Zoey Lim

composer

" Hi there!

Thank you for visiting my corner of the Internet! I’m Zoey, a Malaysian composer currently based in Chicago, IL. I’m a classically-trained musician who finds joy in writing and experiencing film/TV/game scores ever since I realized “screen scoring” is a thing.

Here are some examples of my media music and concert music – enjoy! You can also check out my composer bio, and don’t hesitate to reach out if you have project(s), collaborations in mind, or just to say hi!

Composer Bio

Zoey Lim (she/her) is a Malaysian composer based in Chicago, IL, currently pursuing an MFA in Music Composition for the Screen in Columbia College Chicago. Lim earned her Bachelor’s degree in Music Composition with a minor in Music Technology from West Virginia University.

Her dedication to her craft was further recognized through fellowships and grants to attend programs like the NYU Screen Scoring Workshops and the European-American Musical Alliance Summer Workshops, where she had the privilege of learning from industry luminaries like Jay Chattaway, Michael Levine, Sherri Chung, and Penka Kouneva.

Lim’s creative passion lies in the intersection of the traditional orchestra and contemporary sounds, constantly seeking innovative ways to infuse orchestral music with modern techniques, incorporating non-orchestral instruments and electronic elements. While her primary focus has been composing for film and television, Lim is also exploring the realm of video game music composition, and expanding her horizons in the ever-evolving world of music.

Outside of music, she can be found completely immersed in books or experimenting new recipes for dinner.
